A Head Shot is Not a Portrait

A Head Shot is Not a Portrait

First impressions matter, and that’s why having a professional headshot that connects with your clients is critical to getting your client relationships off to a good start. Headshots aren’t portraits in the traditional sense; they’re part of your client’s marketing message and the needs for these photographs differ in important ways. This course will cover everything you need to know to start taking headshots that really work.

Topics include:

  • How to make headshots using natural light
  • How to light headshots in the studio with strobes or constant lights
  • How to pose people to make them look their best
  • Lenses and other gear information to make your job easier
  • How to talk with clients to understand the kind of message their headshots should be communicating
  • Discussing the difference between a traditional headshot and other kinds of branding photographs you may be asked to take

This course will include hands-on practice, so bring your camera and a short telephoto lens with you (we will provide the necessary lighting gear). You will be taking headshots of other students in class, so if you’re in need of a new headshot, make sure you dress to impress!

This is class is limited to 10 people.

Cost $50.00 plus Eventbrite online processing fee

Instructor - Steve Daubs

Since then, he’s worked as a photojournalist, travel photographer, and, for the past 10 years, as a wedding and portrait photographer in Florida and Wisconsin. With more than a decade of experience teaching, he loves demystifying photographic concepts and helping people understand not only how to do something but why it matters.
