Do you wonder why your family snapshots don’t have the pop of professional portraits? Do your subjects look stiff in the photos you take? In this 3 part workshop, we’ll be sharing the secrets to taking better portraits of individuals, couples and groups and giving you the opportunity to practice with models at the beautiful campus of Epic in Verona. Tamron will also have lenses available for you to borrow.
You will learn:
Posing to flatter every body type
How to identify good locations outdoors
Techniques to create authentic emotions during portraits
Methods for creating visually appealing group portraits
Part 1, Thursday August 8 from 5:30-7:30pm will be held at the classroom at the Camera Company on Odana Road. We’ll dive into posing each part of the body and techniques for posing couples and groups. We’ll discuss both traditional posing and the things you can look for to make your photos feel more natural, and we’ll talk about techniques for more candid images as well.
Part 2, On Saturday, August 10 from 10:00am-1:00pm we’ll meet at the Epic campus in Verona. Mike Pazandak from Tamron will be there with a variety of lenses for you to uses and answer all of your lenses choice questions. While there, we will explore how to scout for good locations and then you’ll have a chance to work with several models to practice photographing individuals, couples and small groups. Your instructor will help guide you to identify key problems in a scene and how to correct them
Part 3, Tuesday, August 13, 6:00-7:00 pm is a optional online Zoom critiquing session where you can share your best images and receive constructive feedback from the instructors and fellow classmates.

Your Instructors
Steve Daubs, CPP, has taken photographs for hundreds of families, seniors, and couples over the past 12 years. With a background in photojournalism as well as advanced training in multiple genres of portrait photography, he brings a deep understanding of what makes a photograph compelling. He not only shows you how to capture the images you want to capture, but he explains why a photograph works or doesn’t.
Mike Pazandak, Tamron Representative, has been working in the photography industry for the past 25 years.
Ed. Grindle, Camera Company Education Coordinator, since studying fine arts at UW-Madison, photography has been a cornerstone of Ed.'s life. He has published both domestically and internationally and has been shooting professionally for over 40 years.

Camera Company classes need a minimum number of students to register before we can hold the class. If the minimum registration has not occurred within two days before the class date it will be cancelled.
