From the cascading waterfalls of Tahquamenon to the granite shores of Lake Superior, the U.P. offers endless opportunities for layered compositions, reflections, and moody skies. Cool temperatures and frequent fog create soft, atmospheric light in the mornings, while late-day sun ignites the maples, birch, and aspens into glowing reds, oranges, and golds.

Add in winding forest roads, historic lighthouses, and the dramatic wave action along the Superior shoreline, and fall in the U.P. becomes one of the most visually rewarding and photographer-friendly seasons anywhere in the Midwest. 

This adventure is designed for photographers who want to experience the thrill of exploration while refining their skills in the field and capturing the wild, untamed beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula during the most colorful time of the year.

Experience Level

This workshop is for beginning, intermediate, and advanced photographers.

Easy-to-Moderate Difficulty

May require hikes from 100 yards to as much as a mile or so from where we park the vehicle. Terrain is typically level and smooth, but can be uneven in some areas and the walks, up or downhill, have minimal elevation change.

Location and Airports

The workshop will be based out of Munising, Michigan. If flying, consider coming in to Sawyer International Airport, in Marquette.
