Lighting on Location

Whether you need to battle mid-day sun, overcome unwanted highlights and shadows, or want to inject some drama into your outdoor portraiture, this course will lead the way. This hands-on, three-hour workshop will teach you how to overcome bad lighting in a variety of outdoor situations so that you can create portraits with beautiful lighting.

We will learn techniques for proper use use of reflectors, scrims, and speed lights in outdoor settings. You will need to bring your camera and, if you have one, a speed light and trigger for off-camera use. If you don’t have a speed light, you’ll still be able to explore various modifiers and how they work.

This is class is limited to 10 people.

Instructor: Steve Daubs

Steve’s passion for photography was born in the streets of Chicago followed by late nights in the darkroom in his college years at Northwestern University. Since then, he’s worked as a photojournalist, travel photographer, and, for the past 10 years, as a wedding and portrait photographer in Florida and Wisconsin. With more than a decade of experience teaching, he loves demystifying photographic concepts and helping people understand not only how to do something but why it matters.
